No Fences? No Problem

Fence Free
&
How We're Making it Work!

No fences? No problem. We've been living on our property now since October, some things have changed for example we'll have a house by the end of summer!! You can check out the posts for our fun home building adventure at out TwoPitsInAPod blog!

But one thing remains the same. We still don't have a fence!

Turns out fences are kind of expensive, and with all of our money being slowly funneled into our new house we just haven't been able to fence our whole property yet. But we figured out a great solution for dealing with no fences.

We just keep lots of treats handy!

Granted, this won't work for every dog. Dante and Ziva have never been runners. Some of our long time readers might remember our former foster Jack. He's so special he has his own category on our main page! He was notorious for running away and terrible recall, thankfully this isn't an issue we've ever had with our Dz Dogs (going to knock on some wood now!).

No fences for us means lots of treats, and the pups are ALWAYS supervised when outside.
To keep Dante and Ziva enthusiastically running back when called; we have to keep the treats good.

No crunchy biscuits for them! Freeze dried or dehydrated treats are their favorites, or stinky moist treats. This month Chewy sent us Earthborn Holistic Earthbites "Skin & Coat" formula. It's a grain free, gluten free treat with added omega fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants specially formulated to contribute to your pets skin and coat health.

Moist Treats For Dogs

"We were sent Earthborn Holistic Treats from Chewy.com in exchange for an honest review. Dz Dogs only supports products that we feel are relevant to our readers. This blog contains NO affiliate links, all thoughts and opinions are our own."

We enjoyed these treats, not only do they use whole ingredients but they are made and manufactured in the U.S. and Earthbites also makes a point to be an environmentally friendly company. They even have a UPC's for trees program! You can learn more about that program HERE if you're interested in it.

Dante working on "two on" for a treat!
What I liked about the treats specifically is that they don't fall apart when you handle them, and although they don't have a super strong smell, their fragrance is quite pleasant (I could smell the molasses in them) and enough to keep the dogs interested.

The final verdict regarding the treats? For a moist dog treat that is healthy and clean to handle, this one is great. It has a light smell and the dogs were certainly willing to work for it. It's also a great price at Chewy.com - you can get a 7.5 ounce bag for just $5.99.

But as far as favorites go? Freeze dried dog treats are hard to beat!

We learned rather quickly that the best way to work outside is with treats for the pups. The treats set up Dante and Ziva for success when we ask them to do things like "come", "sit", "stay" while we are working. And since more often than not we have a treat on us, they come running to make sure they don't miss out on the potential opportunity for a treat.

It's kind of funny, but since we're living in an 18 foot trailer with the pups life has become both more simple and a little more difficult in certain ways. I spend most of my time at home with the dogs. If I'm going somewhere they are often accompanying me, we visit family regularly, have been to the lake twice, and met some new friends hiking! It's a lot of fun!

But my work station is certainly lacking, can't wait to have a good computer set up again! But at the same time, I get to sit outside feel the warm breeze, chase the flies while I work, oh - and keep happy dogs sleeping at my feet with a nice bag of tasty treats.

Like my station?

Life is Good.

Thanks Chewy!

  2. Glad the treats are working out for you. Mom says the best thing is a fence (yes, very expensive) and the next best thing is a doggie door. She says it improves both our lives BOL!
