Flashy Friday Week 2!

Flashy Friday!
Week 2 - "Spin"

Whew! A whole week between posts, sorry guys! Like I've mentioned before we're prepping for a move. Can't wait! It's still a ways out though probably late spring, but we've been crazy busy dealing with putting our pieces together getting our home market ready, house hunting, etc... you know, all that adult stuff.

So if we aren't as active I hope you forgive me. But I do want to keep up our Flashy Friday posts!

This week was Spinning! Did you do you join us in the challenge? Feel free to link up! Even if you picked a different trick or have an old one you'd like to feature please feel free to add it to our hop!

Spinning Clockwise & Counter-Clockwise -

To teach this trick I used a treat lure and my clicker.

Grab a treat, start with your dog in a standing position facing you.

Hold the treat in front of your dogs nose, pull the treat around in a circle close to your dog so that they spin with the treat.

At the completion of the circle *Click, treat!

Once your dog is getting the movement down, start adding your verbal cue.

Say - "Spin", lure, *Click, treat!

Practice, practice, practice! But make sure you keep it fun and don't work too long! If you spend about 5 min a day you'll have it in no time, some dogs get it faster than others so just be patient. Ziva does tight spins on the ground, I'm still working on getting Dante to keep his paws on the ground.

Slowly I began fading my lure into a hand signal, a flick of my finger pointing in the direction I wanted them to go and adding in the verbal cue.

Signal, "Spin", dog spins, *Click, treat!

We're now working to make this harder, I want it to to be completely verbal so i'm slowly working on fading out my hand signals.

Also verbal cues can be different, personally I use "clock" for clockwise and "counter" for counter-clockwise. But that's just what works for us. Some people say, "right" or "left". Really it doesn't matter what word you use, it could be "banana" if you want as long as you are consistent.

**Keep in mind their are many different ways to teach this trick! This is just what worked for us.**
