We love being #ChewyInfluencer pups! It gives us a great opportunity to try out new treats, this month we received ZiwiPeak Lamb Jerky treats for Dante and Ziva.

I love finding new treats for the pups because it helps keep their attention during training and they don't get bored because you never know what kind of goody might be in mom's bag!

With our recent move the dogs are getting WAY more socializing than they ever have before. Currently we're living in a camper trailer (NEW BLOG COMING SOON!!), so either we leave them behind or we take them with us. It definitely depends on what we are doing, having moved to Southern Oregon it hits triple digits in the summer regularly - in fact pretty much daily after June is over... So we've been scoping our dog friendly spots and planning our trips accordingly. Thankfully a saving grace for us is that our trailer has air conditioning, so if we have to leave them behind they are at least a comfortable temperature and at no risk of roasting to death.

Scoping out dog friendly places was a bit of a challenge at first but we're figuring it out! And bringing treats is a definite MUST.

The Importance of Tasty Treats.

The key to our success is a tasty treat! And a great thing about the ZiwiPeak treats is that they break up nice and small so a bag lasts a long time, they also smell great!

Since our life has been pretty crazy recently Ziva and Dante haven't been getting as much formal training as they used to at our old house. This means Ziva is starting to react again towards other dogs. It's kind of funny, for the most part its really minor. Some growling and flashing of eyes in the other dogs direction. But older senior dogs she's very respectful towards, and if I can get her a polite introduction she'll even accept/ignore younger dogs. We're working hard though on getting her to ignore other dogs so that in outdoor dining spaces and vineyards we can sit in peace and enjoy the environment without disturbing other patrons. A stinky treat helps to redirect her attention.

"Dogs? What dogs? Gimme the treat dad!"

These treats we decided to test out at the river on one of our recent triple digit days, being so hot we knew the river would probably have a lot of people and dogs swimming and playing. Perfect for testing out the treats!

Ziva decided that the water was just not her thing, Dante on the other hand had a blast! We used treats to reward Ziva for stepping in the water, and Dante got to show off his tricks to the locals.

Dante and Dz Dog Dad!
These treats were a hit! I wish I could have recorded their noses going crazy when I first opened the bag. To say I had their attention was an understatement.

While Dante and Ziva are rather picky eaters, anything meat is on their list of favorite things to eat! However I liked these treats for their nutritional value.

Healthy Dog Treats

I don't feed my dogs junk. EVER. Health and nutrition is important to Dz Dog Dad and myself, so we believe our dogs should have the same lifestyle we do. We want them to live long and healthy lives so it's important to us to read over all the ingredients in the things that they eat. And our rule of thumb is - THE LESS THE INGREDIENTS THE BETTER.

Currently these treats are on sale at Chewy.com for $6.96 for a 3 ounce bag.

ZiwiPeak 100% Natural Meat Jerky treats fit our bill! Gently air dried to preserve the nutritional value of the meat - these treats are preservative free, have no added colors/salt/sugar or fillers and are made from fresh raw meat that is GMO free!

Ingredients: Lamb Meat, Lecithin, Chicory Inulin, Parsley, naturally preserved with mixed tocopherols.

I wanted to know more about a couple of these ingredients so I did some digging for you guys!

  • Chicory Inulin  is a natural sweetener commonly found in dog food, it's low calorie and can be used to aid in digestion.
  • Lecithin is a fatty substance found in both plants and animals, it acts as a preservative and moisturizer and is supports brain function!
  • Parsley is common for fighting bad breath.
  • Tocopherols are a natural antioxidant and source of Vitamin E, these are preservatives that work to extend shelf life and safely prevent the food from going rancid.
We hope you check them out!
Let us know what you think if you do!
